“Driving down the road I get a feeling that I should have been home yesterday, yesterday,” Kyra sings at the top of her lungs along with the radio as she makes her daily commute home. She always cranks up the radio and sings to take her mind off the tunnel ahead. Kyra hates that tunnel; always afraid she might come out the other side and be somewhere else. Of course, this could never happen, things like time warps and parallel worlds don’t exist, and if they did exist she’d no doubt end up in a world full of women like the one’s at her office; big, bossy, know-it-all’s who think they should rule the world. That Bessy Snodgrass is the worse too. Her parents sure named her wrong; it should have been Bossy, although Snodgrass seems to fit her pretty well. She would head up the committee to have all men castrated, if they were allowed in her kingdom. I bet that woman never had a man in her life. Maybe if she had she wouldn’t be so anal about everything and so rude with all the men; even the men that out-rank her at work.
Kyra could just see it, she’d be stuck somewhere in the sewage plant if a old bitty like Bessy had to run things, and the men would have worse jobs than the sewage plant—if there is such a thing. Well, as long as she could make it through the tunnel without ending up there, she’d be doing pretty good.
She began singing again, “Country roads, take me home, to the place, I belong—-West Virginia, Mountain Momma, take me home, country roads”, as she saw the sunlight at the end of the tunnel, she was almost through it, just a few more feet and she’d be…
