Fear of Writing 10K Day

This is the one day a month that we skip Wednesday Writing Sprints and head over to Fear of Writing for the big 10K Day!

Hope to see you there!

Happy Writing!

Meet Me at Milli’s

Just wanted to let you know that Wednesday Writing Sprints for tomorrow (Sept. 21) will be at Milli’s for the BIG 10K Day for Writers.

Just zip by there, RSVP if you want or just jump in. We’d be glad to have you.

Don’t forget to plan ahead. Have snacks ready, a timer if you need it, something to drink and set some type of schedule for breaks.

Also remember to do your exercise first! Or at some point.

See you there…

Busy Week, Dragon Review, a Great Mention, and Aug 10K Day

So, it’s been a busy week. I finally received my Dragon software. This is my third dictation and so far it’s going pretty well. Of course, it will take more training and I will have to get used to talking to myself, but I think it will be a big timesaver. I do a lot of handwriting and I hate typing from copy, so this will make it a lot faster to transcribe the material that I handwrite.

This software was recommended to me by trusted source. I finally decided to make the purchase and I think it will be very helpful. I highly recommend it to anyone who needs to save time or possibly has problems with their wrists or hands when typing. You still have to do some edits, unless you tell software to use certain punctuation. However, you can vocally tell it to select certain words and correct them using your voice. It’s really easy.

One thing I’d like to point out is that you have to train yourself as well as the software. The more you work with it, the easier it gets and the more accurate it becomes. It does have some problems with some of my pronunciations but I believe that’s from having a partial plate. It generally doesn’t bother me, but in certain speaking situations I become painfully aware of how I pronounce certain words. It’s just something I will have to work out. I’m sure it will learn those little quirks about me.

In other news, I’ve been working on some new PLR packs and have a new pack ready about building your own business.

I’ve been doing some PLR challenges and for the July challenge I won the grand prize. It entitles me to $100 free content. How cool!

David Walker of David Walker.tv recently released his new product titled Big Money Backlinks. On page 19, David added a screenshot of a conversation that he and I had at Blogging Tips on my article about setting intentions. This is a very good mention for me because he is fast becoming one of the top marketers in the industry. It pays to reply to comments that people leave you. It not only gives you recognition but it can also build friendships.

Other than training my new Dragon software today I think I will take it easy. I did work on my day off and got quite a few things accomplished, and since it’s the weekend I may just work on some planning. I need to brainstorm some topic ideas and get them ready for next week.

In the Writer’s Fun category, it’s time to prepare for the August 10K Days. Just visit the Fow Blog and get your RSVP in. These are a ton of fun and you get to ‘visit’ with writers from all over the world. So, if you need some inspiration to plant your butt in the chair and get some writing done–join in the fun!

Hope everyone has a great weekend.

May 10K – More than a Rhyme!

It’s time to start planning for this month’s 10K Day for Writers!

This information is from the Fear of Writing Website. All content is copyright by Milli Thornton – Fear of Writing/The Word Nerd, unless otherwise stated.

Fun Dates:

Wednesday May 18
Saturday May 21

THIS DAY IS for you, so do what works for you. But here are the rules that have proven to produce the best results:

1. No editing or rewriting.

2. No looking back over what you’ve written during the 10K Day.

3. No rummaging—either in notebooks or in your computer files—for writing you did some other time.

4. No research. Make it up.

5. Don’t fuss about the rules of writing. Just write.

6. Don’t fuss with structure. You can format, add chapter headings (or whatever) some other time.

7. No struggling. (“Allow yourself to be crappy.” — J.R. Turner)

8. Take a 15-minute break every two hours. Use this break to refresh your body, brain and spirit.

9. Report to your writing companions during your break. These “check-ins” should be kept brief.

10. No agonizing over your word count. Yes, the goal is 10,000 words, but not at the cost of your peace of mind. This is not a competition—not even with yourself! Have fun instead.

This Week’s Events for Writers

Wednesday Writing Sprint:

Each Wednesday a small group of writers devote the day to writing. It’s not a massive spree like the 10K Day, this is just about setting time aside each week to devote to your craft.

The time can be spent outlining characters, plots, scenes, etc. or it can be spent using it for a writing marathon. The focus is to simply devote more time to your writing.
It’s often difficult to schedule a chunk of time each day for personal writing. We keep making plans to do it, keep telling ourselves to do it, but something always comes up. Setting aside a whole day just for personal writing projects works better because you can plan for it and make preparations. You can schedule other work for another time so you aren’t leaving any clients in limbo.
Make it a part of your weekly work schedule and I’m sure you’ll not only have a good time and feel good about finally spending time with your personal writing, you’ll also make progress.
If you would like to participate, we have opened a public access board in our writer’s group so you can share your progress while joining in on the Wednesday Writing Sprint.
Hope to see you there!

10K Day for Writers:

(Excerpt from Milli Thornton – Fear of Writing)
If you’d like to join us for one of this month’s 10K Days—Thursday, October 15 or Saturday the 24th—you can start here by posting your RSVP.

Please specify which day you’ll be attending.

WHERE TO GO TO PARTICIPATE ON OCTOBER 15 or 24

To participate, return to the HOME PAGE of  Fear of Writing on the morning of your chosen 10K Day. (Each writer determines his/her own start time.) You’ll find a special post called 10K Day: Live While It’s Happening! and that’s where you’ll be making your check-ins.

The Live, While It’s Happening! post will give you pointers on what to post for your check-ins.

RSVP for September’s 10K Days!

If you’d like to join us for one of this month’s 10K Days—Thursday, September 17 or Saturday the 26th—you can start by posting your RSVP in the Comments section at the Fear of Writing 10K RSVP page.

Please specify which day you’ll be attending.

You can also check the 10K Day Guidelines for more information.

Hope to see you there!

Fear of Writing will continue to host both a Thurdsay 10K Day and a Saturday 10K Day as long as they remain active. Only you can keep them alive by participating and having fun with it.

Sixteen. . . and counting!

What is this sixteen I speak of? Writers of course. That’s how many writers have sent their RSVP in for this Thursday’s 10K Day!

Will you be there?

10K Days are fun and productive. This is a day writers  set aside and shoot for writing 10,000 words in one day. Steep? A bit. Achievable? Absolutely, we’ve had many writers surpass the word count.

But, it’s NOT just about the word count. It’s about the love of your craft, coming together with other writers for the day and sharing the whole experience.

If you’d like to join us, simply visit the following link and leave a comment.

RSVP for THURSDAY, AUGUST 13

If Thursday isn’t good for you, we’re also starting a Saturday 10K Day. We realize that many writers have a day job other than writing and can’t make it during the week. If you can’t join us for Thursday’s event, be sure to sign up for the  Saturday 10K Day instead.

RSVP for SATURDAY, AUGUST 22

HOPE TO SEE YOU THERE!

Another 10K Day for Writers Success

writing10kYesterday marked another 10K Day for Writers and was a huge success.  We had several writers finish up books or screenplays they had been working on.

We had several writers who simply got back in touch with their passion for writing and the written word.

We all came together, shared our ups, downs, accomplishments and distractions and cheered each other on.

You can view our progress and support at 10K Day: Live While It’s Happening – July 16.

The next 10K Day for Writers is August 13.  Making a commitment can help you clear your schedule and set aside this day simply for being a writer and following your passion.

We will keep you posted as the next 10K approaches.

Happy Writing!
