Do you love what you do? Whether you’re running your own business online or providing a service to clients, do you truly love it or is it just something to do that pays you money?
If you don’t love what you do you’ll not only find a dozen excuses to not do it but you’ll also suffer burn out very quickly.
I recently joined a group of PLR sellers, people who are trying to grow their PLR business. One thing I noticed is that we all enjoy writing but several of us suffered burn out from writing freelance work for clients. It was numerous things for all of us, from not enjoying the topic material, to being tied to someone else’s deadline. Most of us had to have set working hours to meet those deadlines.
When you work for yourself, you can set your own deadlines and your own working hours. You don’t have to work 9-5 unless you want to. You can work at 2am if you’re an insomniac. You can take a long lunch and a short nap during the day, or a short lunch and a long nap. You can work in the evenings.
For a long time I’ve struggled with writing for other people. Once I hit that burn out stage a few years back it’s been a massive undertaking to even think about writing for clients again. I’ve done everything in my power to avoid it actually. I didn’t really realize I was doing this until recently, but the truth is, I haven’t looked for clients and don’t want to. This is why I love PLR. I can (pretty much) write what I want to write, when I want to write it and people will find it and buy it if they need it.
I started my PLR store awhile back but I can’t say I’ve taken it very seriously until this year. When the New Year’s Resolutions rolled around I decided it was time to get serious, to focus on that one thing and stop chasing all of these other ways to make money. Simply build a business, promote it and enjoy all of the benefits it has to offer.
Too many people are out chasing the next best thing that comes along. I know, I’ve been there many times. I have a hard drive full of those products, promises and promotions.
Now, I have a really simple plan. At least I think it’s simple. Write my daily articles and sell them. I’ll also spend time making announcements and promoting on social media when I upload them into the store, but I’m not chasing any more promises of how to grow a business. Once I master these simple steps, once they become my daily habit, I will add more to it. And all I have to do is look to my hard drive for something I’ve already purchased.
If you’re trying to build a business, in writing or serving others with your expertise, the best thing you can do is to keep it simple. Start simple and master the basics. You can expand later.
Oh, and the most important thing is to love what you do. Not only is that a huge key to success, it just makes work more fun.
