Wednesday Writing Sprint – February 22, 2012

Welcome to the Wednesday Writing Sprints.

Wednesday writing sprints are here! Feel free to jump right in. It doesn’t matter which genre you write in, all are welcome. Fiction, freelance, lyrics, poetry—just be a writer today.

This event happens one day per week. It’s when you dedicate the entire day strictly to writing sprints. Try to turn off email, social media–anything that distracts you and just write.

The time can be spent outlining characters, plots, scenes, etc. or it can be spent using it for a writing marathon or getting caught up on freelance work. The focus is to simply devote more time to your writing.

Enjoy and share your progress throughout the day in comments.

  • If you don’t have a timer, be sure to download something like cool timer. That’s the one I use. I love it!
  • You can race the clock for however long you like; 30, 45 or 60 minutes. I prefer 30 minutes. I get more done if I don’t give myself too much time. See what works best for you.
  • Post your progress in the comments section.
  • It’s not about word counts–not a daily count, at least.
  • It’s about planting your butt in the chair and being a writer and writing as many words as you can in a 30 minute race against the clock.

The most important thing is….HAVE A BLAST & KICK SOME WORD ASS!

Happy Writing Sprints!

Be sure to visit the Free Reports page. I recently added a Freelance Success Report for you to download. Enjoy! :)

Well, it’s just after 2AM here so I’m starting early! :)

Today I’m writing some more of my report that I’m working on but I also need to first package up some PLR to sell later.

I hope everyone has a great sprint today!

I was thinking of starting tonight. It’s right at 8:30 pm. Kevin is playing the mandolin tonight, so it’s kind of relaxing. Maybe a little too relaxing for writing. LOL

If nothing else I will pick my topics for tomorrow. I only have a list of 60 or so to choose from. ;)

      Happy Writing!

Well it’s 10am here in Thailand and I’m really hoping to join in today. I may have nothing better to do as I was sick yesterday (ate something dodgy!) – may go out but probably won’t be doing much if I’m not feeling up to it.

Need to do some thinking and will post back about my writing plans! So happy to be joining in for one day finally!

Great to have you Ruth. It’s 10pm here, so you’re 12 hours ahead of me. I’m about to hit the sack so I “can” get some writing done tomorrow.

    Have a great day!

Well it’s almost noon and I haven’t done anything so far today. The dogs got all muddy going for a walk so they’re going to need a bath!

So, I’m just going to release some new PLR, give them a bath and then get on with some writing.

    I’ll check in later! :)

Well it is now 7.30 am here and am just checking in. Have to wash my hair, make some coffee and then start writing. Have 2 articles to finish for my membership site. Plus got a new idea for a PLR pack from the news this morning. Would like to get 10 articles done today at least.

Will check back in later, have a great day!

Sue, you mean we are supposed to wash our hair when we work from home? Dang, I thought this gig would be easier than a real job. LOL

Kidding, of course. I also hate that “work in your PJs” mentality. I’ve tried it. My PJs tell me it’s time to kick back and relax, not work. ;)

Just checking in. I have a few things I need to do before I get started, which includes taking a shower. LOL

My plan for today is to do some brainstorming as well as actual writing. I don’t have a set word count/page count. I just want to get some work done on four different stories/story lines…and take some breaks for physical activity every hour.

Good luck everyone! See you again soon…

It’s almost 10pm here now. I got in a funk this morning and didn’t do the writing when I planned – I guess the illness got to me but I went out, had lunch, walked around here, went to an interesting museum and felt a lot better. I got more done this evening than I thought. I was about to stop but I’m glad I didn’t – I didn’t count my words but I finally wrote some more for my planned Kindle book. I’m finding it hard to get the words out – I am second-guessing myself and the quality – but I know half the battle is ignoring the inner editor and just typing!

Good luck with everyone else and their words today. Just push yourself to do one more paragraph when you feel like giving up.. I found that thought really helped me today.

Awesome Ruth. I know your finished product will be great. It is hard to quiet the inner editor when it’s writing time. I’ve always loved Stephen King’s advice, “Write, write, write. Cut, cut, cut!”

I’ve ended up working on the newsletter since {gasp} it’s due tomorrow. I’ve been so busy the past few weeks that I haven’t even worked on it much. Luckily I have a stash of PLR at my disposal. ;)

Okay well it is almost 11 am and am on article #5. Staying away from emails and other distractions. But do have to take the dogs out for a bathroom break, me too! Drinking tons of water!

Membership stuff is done working on new pack which will have some product reviews. Which is a little different from my normal packs, so will be interesting to see how it goes over with my list.

Hey all! Managed to get my PLR released and the dogs washed.

I’m a little slow today. I’ve managed 8 pages of my report and I hope to really keep going when I’ve answered some emails.

I only had 2 hours sleep last night so I’ve only got one eye open.

    Awesome Sue and Nathan!

I’ve gotten the newsletter uploaded and the emailed queued. I then started on that social media giveaway. Got my squeeze page ready–which took forever to find a simple squeeze page template for free.

And then, the UPS guy brought Kevin’s cello, so I had to stop for that and give it a look over before Kevin gets home for lunch. He’s not happy with the color they sent, but it’s an inexpensive one and he can practice until we can afford one that costs $1K and in the color he wants. Although, he may not see things the way I do. LOL

Anyway, no real writing for me, but I did get that free pack set up for my PLR list and sent out to current subscribers and customers too. So, not too upset. I did want to get a good head-start on the membership stuff. I’d like to be 2 months ahead (like Nathan) when I launch it. Three months would be nicer, but we’ll see how much energy I have. :)

Not a bad day at all. Taking off for lunch now. Not sure Kevin will eat, but going to make him a salad just in case.

Snarky sharky. I love it! :D

I just finished jotting down a bunch of notes…actually, it’s a preliminary summary, for one of my stories. Just slightly over four pages.

Now I’m moving on to the next job.

    Hope all’s well with everyone!

Just wanted to update as I will be slowing down here shortly. Got lots done. The reviews slowed me down a bit but that’s fine. Still have a few more to do, some are shorter as they are not expensive products but will add some other items as well. If the reviews are on the shorter side I may just compile them into a report that customers could give away, not sure yet.

Turned out sunny here and lots of snow is melting. Time for a tea before hubby gets home.

Hope everyone’s day turned out good.

As I said over on the 10K Day for Writers page:

As for my own writing, I just added another 1,582 words to another story summary (read: brainstorm) document for my Immortal Watchdogs characters, the brothers Damian and Casandro Stephanakis. Some of those were recycled, and I have a timeline, and I had to add elements from that into the summary, but I added a lot of new, fun stuff! :D

    So far today:

    D&D (R/H FF) Notes: 1,743
    D&C (IW) Notes: 1,582
    Total:
    3,325

I’m off to take a break for a few minutes, then I hope to write for about half an hour more. I may write some more tonight, too, but will do that from Little Blue. Right now, I’m using my new desktop, Damian (why yes, I did name him after my character! Why do you ask? *g*).

Keep cranking out the words, everyone. You’re doing great! :D

Better get up and move a bit. Got laundry to switch over before I get back to writing!

    Hope you’re all doing well!

I love to read about everyone’s progress! Lois, I’m going to have to explore some of your fiction at some point!

Patti – where can we hear some of Kevin’s music?

Sue – I always find that product reviews take longer! I think I’m just getting the hang of it now if I stick to my routine when writing them!

Well I’ve managed to finish 21 pages so far and I’m going to do some more soon. I’m using screenshots and formatting etc. so it’s not really 21 pages of straight text. I’ve broken through my tiredness now so I’m ready to get some more writing done!

Nathan, So glad you asked. I love to brag on my hubby! :)

Go to my “About Me” page, scroll to the bottom and there’s a Reverb Nation widget with Kevin’s original music. He wrote those in the late 80s but didn’t record until the early 90s. Hasn’t been in studio since and these are all old school garage band metal like stuff. My favorite is Coming Home. He didn’t want to do the vocals himself, but had no choice.

    Enjoy!

I guess I could update myself. Jeeze! I’ve been so busy today and forgot to write down all of my “done” things—something new I’m trying, writing down what I’ve done instead of just a to-do list.

Anyway, the social media gift was approved. I have a twitter website I could have set up, but I just put it on my newsletter list, which I need to revamp anyway. Not overly happy with it.

My daughter’s new iPhone came in today so spent half an hour texting with her about it. We’ll take it to her Saturday. Road trip!

So amongst all of the chaos that doesn’t normally happen on a day to day basis, I did pretty dang good with getting stuff done. Hopefully tomorrow I will get to actual writing.

Glad everyone else had a good productive day!

    Total: 4,465

Hope you all had a great day! I know I did. :)
